PIERCE CLAIMS MIXED TITLE

Mary Pierce added her name to the roll of Wimbledon honour when she claimed the mixed title with doubles specialist Mahesh Bhupathi.

The unseeded pair beat Paul Hanley and Tatiana Perebiynis 6-4 6-2 in just 54 minutes on Centre Court on Sunday.

Bhupathi, who formed a successful long-standing doubles partnership with Leander Paes, had tasted Wimbledon glory before, but for 30-year-old Pierce - a former Australian and French Open champion - it was her first title in SW19.

Earlier in the day the France-India combination had seen off third seeds Jonas Bjorkman and Lisa Raymond in the semi-finals.
